Stephanie Johnson, Ed.D.

Dr. Stephanie S. Johnson is the Deputy Superintendent of School and District Effectiveness at the Georgia Department of Education, where she leads School Improvement, Professional Development, and Alternative Education programs. She also serves as the acting ChiefTurnaround Officer (CTO) for the Governor's Office. Dr. Johnson is a passionate educator dedicated to developing students as scholars, leaders and good citizens. She believes all children should have opportunities to maximize their individual talents and receive meaningful learning experiences in safe and orderly schools conducive to learning. She focuses on the Whole Child utilizing a comprehensive approach inclusive of effective leadership, coherent instruction, family and community engagement, building professional capacity, and providing a supportive learning environment for all students, employees, and stakeholders.

Dr. Johnson earned her title as a transformational leader in Georgia over the past 25 years. Dr. Johnson began her career as a public-school teacher and transitioned to school counseling and leadership. As principal, she led the n1rnaround efforts of Sequoyah Middle School and Jonesboro High School in Clayton County and Maynard Jackson High School in Atlanta Public Schools. Her leadership as the "Mission Possible" lead principal in Atlanta Public Schools helped transform all nine feeder schools in the Jackson cluster and revitalized the community.

Dr.Johnson grew up in Chatom, Alabama and relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 2001. She graduated from Washington County High School and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama majoring in Psychology and minoring in English. She earned Master of Education degrees in English and Secondary Education from the University of West Alabama. She earned Educational Specialists' degrees in School Counseling and Educational Leadership from the University of South Alabama. She completed her Doctor of Education Degree in Educational Leadership and Management from Capella University. Notable training includes completing eight summer sessions at Harvard University's Principal Institute, Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI) Power of 100, GLISI's Summit and Bootcamp, Diamond Leadership at War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the School Superintendent Association (AASA), and Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO).
